In the Cluny Museum in Paris there is a set of six tapestries dating from just before 1500, known as the Lady with the Unicorn tapestries, which have been the subject of much debate among scholars. According to accepted opinion they depict the five senses of man. In this essay, Anna Nilsén discusses the original order of the tapestries and studies their motifs in the light of the ideals of the dawning Renaissance.
